Indian Corn

WARNING CLUB SPOILERS!  Yup, this is the new colorway which we painted for this months Fae Yarn Club on 3 different bases, I LOVE this color way. Normally I don't like orange, yellow and red but when mixed with purple, sends me right over the top.

Indian Corn
We had so much fun with this new color that I had to show it off.  This base is our Milky Silky sock, 70/20/10 SWmerino/silk/cashmere, oh so soft and squishy you just want to hug an armload.
Great for sweater knitting season.  I had to photo this on both sides as they change from side to side, hence all the different photos here.

BFL/Silk Lace weight, 55/45 what with all of the silk it's got a high sheen to it. Would look fantastic in all of the multi colored shawls, wraps and cowls out there.

It's so soft and nummy you want to snuggle in it. I could see this paired with one of the sock weights for a nice fat, thin striped shawl. A plain yo k2tog would be amazing.
Baby Camel sock the best of the best SIR!  Yup, 50/50 baby camel and silk... it doesn't get much better then this.  Stuff really took the dye well too, I'm so proud of our wee baby.
For more information please PM me at wmdress at sbcglobal dot net.

2017 Star Heirloom

Kits are now available for our 2017 Star Heirloom, this 6 wedge shawl will be completely modern in that it's not a circle or a square this time, sqweee!  I love that we are making a truly modern shawl this year.  You can find the kits here and the pattern loaded on our pattern page. There are some lovely colors to choose from... and of course, star stitch marker.  This time we have only one kit as you need everything in it with no real extras.
FYI, more KAL's forthcoming shortly!  First we need to dye yarn up but I'm really excited about everything we have coming out over the next couple of weeks.  Gradient silk/merino sock weight for that lovely shawl I posted about yesterday.
These are the gradient colors we are dyeing for this shawl... all on sock yarns
Cocoa Bench On Silver Shot

Blue Sunrise on Silk/merino

Happy Days on Silk/merino

Pre-Dawn on Medium Sock
And our silk top is finally coming out of hiding!  We are calling it Slinky Dink, made from the 100% silk is very soft, slinky and will make a very sexy top when worked up in the drape version.  For the Peeps who've been around a few years this was known as V5 in the past due to all the different varieties of necklines and sleeves that are available. I can't wait to get this one going.  This will be worked in the new 100% Italian Silk, fingering weight.  I have started on mine. Sqweeee!

Arsenic and Old Lace & Twinity

Who doesn't love it? Arsenic and Old Lace, great old black and white movie with Cary Grant, another face paced oldie.
One of our all time favorite movies has come into it's own in the Fae Realm and has turned into a color.  How does an old black and white movie turn into color?
Via a request from a lovely, dear Peep who sparked it all off... along with a desire of mine to use a special "color" which is not a color.  Go figure out those loops, or should that be loons?  :-) The inspiration was of r
oses, so old and fragile they have broken apart in some areas. Tattered lace, between the folds of an old book.
Using these beginnings I hit the dye baths.  Somehow we needed to dye more then just one skein so here we have it on our Italian Lace.
As you can see it's not just the color of old lace, but it also has a hint of purple and pink rose in it as well.
Here it is on a 85/15 silk/cashmere cobweb. You can see the colors better in this photo.  There is a skein of it in the Indian Silk as well which was not photographed but can still be seen in this video when we share yarn time.  To order just tell me which base you'd like and give me your paypal addy and your full street address... I'll send an invoice.
Have ya'll seen the Twinity Shawl by Anne-Lise Maigaard.
It's a beautiful pattern and I want to play so bad! They are KALing it on her group in November and I was thinking it would look amazing in our Cupcakes or any one of our semi solid gradients.  Not the hand paints,,, just the slight 2 color blend or our Cupcakes which flow from one color to the next.  I can totally see this in Unicorn Love but a more subtle blend into the black.  YUM
The shawl calls for a size 4 needle so our mini skeins would be fine if you wanted to use sock weight for a larger shawl. It's only 20x54 so you might need to work it in sock weight.  The original yarn was a 656 yard per 100g, in other words a heavy weight lace, and the shawl is very small so I'd love to see this knit in sock weight.  But if you want we could reskein any one of our laces into say 4 hanks so that you could get all of the color. You'd need to buy the 2 skeins of yarn, then we'd either half or quarter it and you could "paint" from the skeins.  What fun!!  We have our 80/20 merino/silk lace which would be a good match substitute for this lace.  If I could do it, I'd use our mini skein sock weight with a ton of color transitions in purple blue and gree, still working on the size 4 with 6/0 beads which would make a larger but still striking shawl.  Looks like stitch markers are needed.  LMK if your interested and we can play with goodies too.  wmdress at sbcglobal dot net.
We are dyeing either end of this week or beginning of next week so do holler if you need anything.

Happy Birthday

Said in my bestest Frosty the Snowman voice, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To me... and because it's my birthday you get a shot a scoring big time.
This lovely is Indian Corn the latest edition of new colors of 2016.  Painted on a 75/25 brown/white BFL blend roving, it's a lovely little nice, nice.  The little one at the bottom left is a fine micron merino. These little guys weigh 3.6 oz in all and you can have them for just $7 and shipping of $3, total of $10 SOLD  Yea, I know it's under way under market, it's my birthday and I can celebrate as I like. They look just like the corn on the cob!  I love this one.
Before you ask, yes we will paint it on yarn, an entire blanket worth if you like.  But not until after this long weekend and my birthday cruise is in the past.  :-) Ya'll know how this works, whoever pays first gets first dibs.  IF your in the Rose Fiber buy and want to us to hold the BFL, you save $3 and only need to pay $7!! Pm me, upper left corner of the blog. Yeah HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Cafe Press Store

It's finally happened, we have a place for you to get goodies at Cafe Press! Scroll down when you get there as there are three designs on, mostly the same items. The attempt to section them and place the designs into files, failed.  Eventually I hope to be able to figure everything out. For now, I'm just happy to have the storefront open, it's taken about a year and 2 people to do it.  Thrilled to offer up this link for you. ENJOY!

Siren Line

WOW you guys!  I'm so floored!  We made all the new yarns submit and go saturated... they went!  I even got the mink super dark.  I'm getting more of the product as we are now out of Siren Mink.

We sold out for the Pandorf Dragonfly photo on the left.  Order these yarns and more on the Siren page.
Siren Yak in Greenwood

Siren Bamboo in Cafe Au Lait
Siren Bamboo in new Twlight color

Siren Mink Poison Frog
Siren Silk fingering in Seaweed color way
We are also pulling in some silk that we can sell for only (DRUM ROLL PLEASE) $26 per 100g skein!  YIPPEEEEWe are beginning with fingering weight for the top that we designed.  Eventually we will be able to bring in the lace that sells for the same price.  While it isn't our "Italian" this stuffs amazing.  Still takes all the color and keeps asking for more. AND this is the FIRST time we've dyed a silk that still has the smell of silk once it's dyed and dried.  So cool!  I rate this somewhere between the Italian and the Indian as it's only a 2 ply so it's way softer then the Indian but it doesn't reach the silkiness of the Italian.

Ships at Night 50/50 silk merino
The 45/55 silk/merino lace that we have is also being replaced.  Why? because this stuff's just way softer! I think that the micron is lower on this one then the older one.  We will be selling the old stuff off and bringing in this new one which is actually cheap too at just $22 per 100 gram skein.
These two new yarns can be ordered now from the Siren page, as can all the above yarns.
Here we just have a new color that I'm calling Peacock.  We can do this on any of the SW bases.  This skeins is our Yak Sock which really takes the color well.  All my favorite colors in one skein of sock weight yarn.  Hum,,, I wonder what it will be? Socks! You guessed it.  Through the years I've made our family a good many socks and have made all of our sock patterns the way our family likes best.
You can have anything you see here in any of the bases we carry, please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Our first storm this year produced this photo, love it.

We have so much going on it's hard to know where to start. Do I give  you bullet points or do I allow Chatty Patty to yammer your ears off?

Opening as soon as we get this order in.... Very late last night Last night I had an epiphany, vials of "poison" for a necklace/earring set. There are so many to choose from, the forerunners are strychnine and deadly night shade but there are several others that caught my eye. These are coming from our China distributor, opening has been delayed until I can make up my mind. Part of me wants to go with the yarn colors and part of me wants to have consistency for simplicity sake. Then there's the practical part of me that wonders if they will sell out should the KAL do better then anticipated, hence more then one color. Haha I just realized how causally I'm speaking of handing y'all poisons!
Today I shored up our order and got ya'll some AMAZING stuff. For the poisons we are getting 12 blue, 12 green and 4 sets of white ones. We have vials which are brown glass with polymer clay covered, free for the first 10 Kit 1 orders.  You can mix up your own poison should you want to load it up. There are some other fun things coming as well.... Big Ben, a London large dooolybob and a "Believe in Sherlock" tag, FUN! So I got a bunch of large lobsters for a metal project bag thingy.  Gee, perhaps I can put some poison in there too! Then I found a I heart London button/badge/pin thingy for the outside of your Pressies. Can't wait!  I paid extra to get it all extra fast, hopefully it will be here end of next week.
On top of our normal orders, we are waiting for this massive yarn shipment, about 800 more skeins.  So far we've dyed up 4 of the 10 colors (420 skeins)which were ordered. It's wholesale, in case you didn't figure that out.  Once we are able to share the details in January we will send you the information.  Think large yarn club order, we did the free sock pattern that comes with this order.  I wouldn't mind a few more TKers to double and triple check the pattern.  PM me if your interested.
Sitting out front, is a box. It's going to Spinning Box, anyone interested in our new Monet colorway?  Yes,,, we will do it on any SW yarn too! would look AMAZING on the silk sock!!  But if you want the box you really should check them out at the link above. There are people who've reviewed the boxes on YouTube, so fun watching them unpack their goodies. You get 1 ounce of our 80/20 SWmerino/nylon in your Spinning Box. I so NEED this to spin a pair of socks.  I have zero brown socks and while it's got brown it... it's not brown... just sort of reads it with all this other loveliness inside.  Then when fluffed it becomes more subdued.
Check this out... the difference in the dye lots, I believe this is due to a heavier hand with the pink and purple. The wheel above is shown at the bottom of the pile here.  I didn't think I'd like it so I went heavier on the purple and pink... but I actually really love that browner color.
Did ya'll see?  We got a Facebook page!  Go hit like page and then give us a review.  While your there, check out our very first video!  We have wanted to do that for ya'll for literally, years.  Thought about doing audio vs. video and something just snapped the day we did it.  I just set it up and hit record.  We did our thing and hit upload.  If ya'll like it we will do it monthly cause we loved sharing with ya'll.  Oh and do check out the photos,,, I never loaded all the photos to the Twist, can you believe it!??? I think this is the first time I've ever not loaded the Twist.  Who know's perhaps it's all destined for the Christmas pressies and I don't know it yet.
Speaking of which, look forward to the Christmas club opening on 11-15.

Also in November is the Christmas Star.  Those of you on Ravelry have already seen the inspiration photo I pulled way back when. We were talking Victorian inspiration and out came all these lovely shades of purple and bronze.
This photo inspired both the color way and bits of the pattern. There are 2 colors for this, a brighter one and this darker one at the left.  They are very similar but the other is brighter, more like a yellow gold.  Anywho, expect that to open some time in November?

Before that opens we have an amazing sport weight shawl for you this year.

So the thought was of the Northern Lights, snow, Canadians rule! and winter snows, out of doors in general.  Which is where some of the shawls patterning is coming from. Anywhoo... what say you to this lovely Aurora Borealis colorway?  We have that and the peacock transparent AB noir lined 6/0 beads... love them, you will too once I get a photo.  These are very special beads and will look smashing no matter which color your working on in the shawl at any given time.
We have one last KAL, or is it of the first KAL of 2017? It's the Feather and Fan,,, we made up 2 color ways and have teamed with Paradise Fibers.  You'll be able to get the pattern from them. This one is great fun but very "dark ops" until I'm allowed to share I just can't.  SHHHHH BUT this one needs a name, help!  This isn't your standard F & F pattern but the YF edition.  Keep that in mind as you thunk up something and PM me.
The 2017 line up has begun.  Tangiers is our heirloom and we have brought the yarn in.  A 70/30 silk/cashmere, nice, strong, but thin enough for our purposes.  It's a heavier yarn at 2/48 so I think we are going back to the size 0 needles.  Loose knitters can go down smaller with our interchangeable needle kits should that be necessary.  We still have the merino's of last year as well as the Chocolate Cash Cob,,, perhaps several others?  I'm not sure but we are very well stocked in undyed cobweb now.
Lastly we have Wesleyghan... least that's what I've been calling it.  This lovely blanket for next year... we have 16 bright colors in the center blocks.   Black to break it up and lastly a multi colored yarn to work a 1 foot multi edging of either texture or lace.  I think I'm going to throw all of the ideas I had into the charts.  Then you will have to decide cause I just can't.  There are so many ideas in here for it.  Oh and we had a poll on Ravelry and the consensus was to go with our Imp DK.  This was due to the fact that it's super inexpensive and takes up all the dye and then asks for a 2nd helping. We will be able to give you all 16 colors but only half of those skeins so that you will only have to pay for 8 skeins.  The price will be a bit higher to cover our reskeining costs but it will still be cheaper then having to buy 16 skeins just for the center.  I think I came up with 15 skeins total for the entire thing.
Other then that, patterns.... a slew of older ones and some new ones.  I really need to get some of the multi colored yarn patterns out.  We have so many  of them and they are just wasting away here.  We got this fingering weight silk in that's just like the Italian silk... perfect for the top we made up.  I can't wait to dye it... course we have to hunt it down.  I got in it and lost the kilo.  Whatchagonnado? It's not the first base I lost, probably wont be the last.
Chatty Patty is no longer welcome...

  • Silk Top (done)
  • Circular - Kalediscope Pinwheel (almost finished)
  • Patels Petals (patterns not started)
  • Tighs Cowl (TKer needs yarn)
  • Cable Guy free with purchase of sock yarn (finished, just needs final edits)
  • Beady Duo (January super secret shhh)
Well Kiddies, that about sums it up. Hope this gets ya'll caught up to speed and has you smiling. ENJOY!!

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

Well Kiddies, how many of you read my prior post and thought,,, hum the other shoes going to drop? Normally my cynicism would have put me there too but for some reason it didn't and I went along my merry way. Some of you know that our dear, much beloved Furball kitty was in and out of the vets for the last 2 weeks.

We had no idea that today he'd be gone and it would be over for him so fast.  The vet said he was old! Who knew, I thought he was young.
We created him, due to the fact that his father thinks he's a dog and is VERY cool, amazing, etc.  So before getting the father neutered we mated him with a crazy cat (should have been the first indication).  Missy would run back and forth with this wild look on her face, tossing herself up the walls, climbing the drapes. Just to race back down and hit the next room.  CRAZY CAT!  Her coloring was predominant as Fur turned out black and white, long haired. The rest of her DNA was lost to Fur and he got his fathers loving innards.
Turns out he probably got died from the same thing that one of our dogs died from, kidney failure.  Our well past inspection, I don't understand how since this is the second pet to go from the same thing.  Years back we had a fountain that I fed from the well, not the RO filtered water.  The lab that gave us the test results lulled me into a false sense of comfort or I'd never have allowed them the water.  This was many years ago,,, for the last 5+ I have given nothing but filtered water to the pets.  As I've aged I've grown more of a germaphob as well.
I write this so that you all know and the PM's stop.  I'm having a hard time dealing with his death, knowing I caused it and the ensuing years of agony. The doctor told us that the ammonia in the urine backs up on the system and it's as if your on fire from your mouth to the other end.  What a horrifying way to go.  While I get that you want to write and comfort, I can't take the love just now. Perhaps next week will be easier?

  • Next up, two pure breds, both lace weight 100% Mink 655 yards/100g $34
  • and 100% Yak 490 yards/50g $24.

Bizarre happenings & update

Something so very out of the ordinary happened today that I had to stop and tell ya'll about it. Actually there's 2 things.
The first was that we had so much yarn to dye this week that we needed 2 days to do it.  We dyed over 150 skeins and many of them were custom, new colors and needed every bit of minutia written down.  That doesn't just take a lot of time but a lot of thought to boot.  Since it's all very artsy fartsy and you have to be really on top of things to get it all to work out well.  Each new item we dyed, I feel in love with.  Many of them you wont be able to see until 2017 but then that's the way things work around here. All very hush, hush and keep it under wraps. What's so amazing about the fact that we dyed?  It's my very first time of dyeing back to back, actually being physically able to work again on day 2 of dyeing, akin to a miracle!
The second thing has me totally at peace and so happy I feel like it should be against the law.  Nothing changed tonight, we ate. Actually that is new believe it or not.  This week I've been cooking, eating and washing up breakfast with Pixie #1, it's been great fun.  Today she came to me and asked why she was so tired.  She's hypoglycemic so tonight I made up a high protein dinner for her, poor dear.  Hopefully it will kick her into high gear or at least help regain some strength for us to begin labeling and photographing all of this new yarn.  I whipped the meal up from almost nothing and we ate together.  Then the rest of the night proceeded as normal, DH and I read the Bible. Then we checked up on our cruise (for my b-day), filed a price protection thing to get a credit and we also redeemed my Fun Points for a $100 credit.  By the time we are done with all of this the cruise will be ever so much cheaper then our Labor Day weekend away. We spent the evening together and then he went to sleep. Normal night for us.  Somewhere in that last hour this peace descended over me like a nice toasty heated blanket you get in pre-op. There's all of this love mingled in with the peace.  I dunno, I'm just happy, sort of a mellow happy, it's great and I'm well pleased.
Ya'll know I came up positive for pre-diabetic screening right? Well, I've been through a course prescribed by my doctor to help loose weight and gain control again.  So far I've lost almost 30 pounds and am continuing down.  I found this app I want to share with you it's called MyFitnessPal.com, they have a very large database and the app does all the work for you.  LOVE IT!  Totally helping me out as I had NO idea just how much sugar I was ingesting.  I was eating a lot of fruit still and they only allow me 50g which is the equivalent of 2T of jam!!!!  So, I'm having to readjust a bit again.  Which is a good thing as I've been stuck at this weight for a couple of months now.  Time to get off the plateau and soar through the canyon below.
Root canals SUCK! they are extremely painful. Who's bright idea was it to stick the equivalent of needles up into the root of the tooth?
Could the peace be from knowing how the rest of the year should pan out. All will be well as we got a large contract in so we should be able to make payroll as well as the IRS double down that we expect them to take in April.  Don't fret, we will still hold our annual IRS sale.  Could be that we have 2 new patterns in test knit and another new one ready to KAL.  Could be all the lovely yarn we painted, came out smashing.  Could be how amazing our Peeps are, how well oiled this machine is becoming. Could be that we are getting the dye out of the house and setting up our own space.  SO NEEDED! My kitchen will become a kitchen again and we will have a dining room again instead of this chaos of yarn, pots, pans and dye literally everywhere.  Dunno, whatever it is, I'm really happy, peaceful and now it's time to turn in.
     Just a quick update:

  • Cocoon KAL begins 8-31 everyone will have their yarn by then.
  • Neverland will begin on it's heels, 9-21 or 9-28 depending on if everyone has a chance to get orders in.
  • We are partnering with Paradise Fibers, there KAL will be in here someplace. An all original feather and fan that needs a name.
  • Compact shawl (needs a new name) is a spiral
pinwheel who's lines are so hard, we were able to use hand painted yarn.  There's a semi solid dark skein on the outside for the cable border. This is painted on some of the softest yarn we carry, sock weight Milky Silky, LOVE it.
  • We are in the SpinningBox (fiber) for the rest of the year.
  • Contract with ____ for a TON of yarn for their club. It's all hush hush so I can't tell but we dyed up 11 samples for their club, amazing!!!
  • Moriarty is ready to begin TK mode, yarn for the samples currently drying.
  • Canuck was painted on Imp Sport and it's the aurora borealis AMAZING job on this one, love it. You will too, yarn's great and the dye, WOW.
  • Christmas Star has 2 color ways, one is a hand paint, the other is more of a semi solid in the same colors.  This one is done gradient on our medium sock.  SO pretty! Pixie #1 saw it and wants to do the knit for this one.  I want to do Canuck they are both so lovely.
  • Bunnymuff has a New Years shawl in our Italian silk, the All That color way.  It has a 1930's vibe to it, looks like as a kit, not and MKAL.
  • Tangers (or Marrakesh) is next year's Heirloom, we bought the yarn. You'll be happy to know it's white and on it's way to us now.
  • Anyone want another blanket for next year?
  • We should be able to run the Christmas Club again this year. Depends on how much of the work load we are under in November.
  • Not sure if we can do the 4th quarter of the Fae Yarn club as the end of this year is a big push to get all of this out.

Ok, so what do you think? A bit over kill right?
"Who's the shrub", Hook reference. I feel like I need to hide in that shrub just to keep my sanity. All of this is written in black marker on a large sheet of paper on the wall so nothing gets lost or falls through the cracks. Ya'll ready for this? It's going to be a whirlwind end to 2016 for sure! ENJOY!!!
