Lace Weight

Well Kiddies, I'm a mess.  Turns out the polls obsolete... the 2/18 is a NON superwash.  I can't bring that in as we must have a superwash.  AND my supplier says that lace doesn't sell well so they aren't bringing it back until MARCH!  Obviously I need to find another supplier.  I have been searching and writing e-mails for the last 3 hours and I'm totally drained.  I do not want to drop this yarn as it's our go to for everything deep, dark and saturated.  You'd think this base would be easy to find but it's becoming as obsolete as cobweb and just as difficult to find.  I did find some out of the country but I fear that the VAT charges would push the price right out of the roof.  I thought 8 kilos would be enough, who knew ya'll would eat it all up and I wouldn't be able to get more.  I can and still will bring in the 2/24 when the company opens back up again first week in January.  SAD and upset as you know how I feel about being a good supplier for you.

SNOW!

I can't stand it any longer, I wanted the Holiday post to stay up until we returned to dyeing on 1-6 but I can't take it one more minute, IT'S SNOWING!  Ya'll know we are in the mountains of Southern Cali, and we have been in a drought for years.  Well, looks like this winter it might just break.  We've had some good rain and now we are getting a nice layer of snow.  It's actually sticking and it's hitting our relatively low height of 3500 feet above sea level.  I LOVE IT!
Something else happened today that I need to scream from the rooftops... we have almost run out of our superwash lace yarn.  There are only FIVE stops available for Mirkwood or Raven remaining!  I freaked, went to buy yarn and it's backordered!  WHAT!  Yeah major freak out.  Should have bought more then the 8 kilos I got for ya'll.  Cest La Vie, it has happened and there's nothing I can do about it.  I have enough yarn remaining for 5 more orders.           That said I can get a nummy replacement but it's a bit more expensive as it's super fine merino but out of LAMB wool which is by far superior quality wise they adult merino.
I can get it in 2/18 which is 900 yards per 100g OR 2/24 which has 1200 yards per 100g!  NUMMY!  I love me some fine yarn in large yardage.  I think I would like to add the 2/24 to our base yarn anyway as you could get a really nice large triangle out of that yardage.  I will make a poll to let you tell me what you think 900 or 1200?
Another thing I have been doing is playing with getting true color from Johnny #5 and a white box.  GOT IT! finally, after all these years I can get a really smashing photo, see the Twist page.  That handspun is true to life FINALLY FREE!  ahhhhh....
I have also been collecting, I feel like a squirrel.  Loads of Venice lace from here and Hong Kong.  Lovely stuff, in pieces, collars and front bodices.  Yeah, why right... well I have these ideas of making beaded necklaces from them.  I now have a great deal of supplies for trimming them with edge endings for lobster and chain to make them work as a necklace and I'm past ready to begin working on the stuff I got in the USA.  I have that and a small fortune in sterling silver, marcasite and vintage black glass.  One of these days all of this stuff is going to come together to make some amazing stuff.  I only hope there will be a KAL to pair them with.  Weird how it seems like I work backwards,,, yes?  But you watch and see, it will all come together.
I have two large events this year that I'm loathe to tell of as they have yet to pass. One will happen in the first quarter and the second in the third quarter of this year.  The second is MASSIVE and I can't WAIT to share but until I have the funds in hand I just can't do it.  Suffice to say it will double our customer base and be very difficult for us to manage.  BUT we rise to every challenge and are looking forward to it.
So far I have really enjoy the lounging and gotten into it, possibly too far.  Never changing out of PJ's for one thing!  LOL Been learning a lot about my puter, anti virus- Avira is out and AVG is in.  Messed things up a bit so I had to learn.  I was forced into learning why this and that was happening and what to do about it.  For instance, I was having a memory issue (LOL nothing new there) and my puter is empty and new so it's hard to think that there could be an issue.  Figured it out in the end and feel less vulnerable and more secure.  Through all of this I'm feeling different, my brains feel like they are unscrambling and hopefully all will be well when the time comes and I return to pattern writing. Artist's can have down times where there's just nothing there and it's not something you can force.  It has to just come naturally or you end up with junk.  I don't make no junk, I'd prefer to hang up my hat then to make patterns that were a disappointment to me but mostly, to you all.
ENOUGH for today! Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Shipping & Dyeing

Due to the Holidays, items might be in the mail for a bit longer then normal.  We will ship Priority Mail where ever feasible.  Mirkwood and Katya are the only KALs this will effect and we are upgrading all of you in the hopes of getting the KAL yarn out to you in time to start both of these on time.  At least the Peeps State side, I can help you.  General post is taking about 3 weeks and getting items to you well after Christmas as this point. I over heard Pixie #2 say he ordered something on the 13th and it wasn't going to here until the 31st! Crazy right!
Those of you who haven't received a shipping label at this point are still in process and we will be dyeing on Thursday, hopefully all that yarn will ship by the 21st, the First Day Of Winter!
Those of you outside the USA, hopefully you shipping will be just as fast as is has been all along.  Perhaps only with an added day or two in there and you too will get your yarn in time. We can hope any.  So if you have been putting off your order this is the Last Call to order yarn for Katya and Mirkwood to receive it on time.

Crystallettes

Did you see?  The Fae Yarn Club is open once again!  Forest Nymphs, if you can only get one this time I highly recommend the Lux Sock as we have YAK, camel, too many new yarns to name.
Ya'll know me... hound dog that I am, I now have 300 of the wee buttons coming in.  I can SEE a pair of gloves with faux buttons up the sides... very vintage and old fashioned.  Just like the old dresses had all those buttons up the back and on the cuff's of their dresses.
We have so many new lux yarns that would work for this... our new silk/linen would be fun with the AB crystals in cream.  I got three different colors.  The AB on the left, aquamarine on the right and below is a lovely deep purple which would look smashing on black!  OH and our skirtcho! Yeah baby!
I can't wait to play.  Perhaps we have a glove KAL coming in 2015?

We are officially distributors for HiyaHiya now as they can offer us all the 00-00000 size needles we need for cobweb shawls.  I will be loading those as soon as I can.
While ordering I bought a bunch of fun accessories that might make it into Fae Yarn Club this year.  Cause who doesn't love a Panda holding a knitting needle or knitting a sock?  Perhaps another video is on the horizon as I open our box of goodies.
Last night while rummaging through the stock to gather up presents for the Christmas contest see here. I found a massive bag of old Yarn Fairy hand paints!  There's one customer who loves the base (discontinued) so she gets first crack at them.  If she doesn't want them I will be loading them to the Twist page here shortly.  I also found some Raven sock on what appears to be cashmere! YUM and a skein of Pixie Paca in a lovely purple/plum
There's also as some deep purple/violet fingering weight silk for a top.  It has all sorts of colors in it black, hot pink, blue and green.  Looks as though it might have been dyed a few times then kettled since there are so many colors. This is a bad photo it's much prettier in person. There are 6 skeins, like I said, perfect for a top.  If anyone is interested please e-mail me at wmdress at sbcglobal.net and I will find the price on this as it's not something we carry but I do remember where it came from.
Well it's been fun but I need to clear the decks as Pixie Bell is coming up to play with her doll house. It needs some finishing touches and I thought we could make a book too. Have a great weekend.

Swavorski Crystalletes

Have you seen these things!  I hadn't before last night.
They come in either gold or silver tone and they are shank BUTTONS!  Super tiny these are 3mm Swarovski crystals mounted into the shank.  They come in many colors and the cheapest I've found them is for .50 cents each on Etsy.  I keep thinking how awesome they would look up the side of some gloves or down the side of a skirt.  ANYWHERE! on your knitting.  I'm just so thrilled with them.
So much so that I contacted Swarovski to see if I can buy them in bulk for a KAL. I was told Swarovski will not deal with a small fry but how do the peeps on Etsy buy them then? I have to have them.  WE have to have them.

Can't keep a good Fae down

This weekend I crawled into Dr. Mike's office, my Chiropractor of about 25 years.  He was very kind when I said, "gentle please",,,, he gave me a bit more of a rub down to try and relax me (saw him yesterday 30 minutes after he touched down from a flight!!!) and worked on me for about 15 minutes. Before the real work began.  It hurt but I expected screaming and only got an OH! out of it all.  When I climbed onto the table (needed help!) my left side was shorter then my right, per the old foot gauge thing he does and he could tell the left side was bunched up and that the pelvis was off on that side.  So I asked, can you tell which side I fell on?  Which started this conversation about how we fall, the height and how we land.  To make a long story longer.  After the fall I didn't have any strength in my left hand, found it hard to knit, was REALLY SCARED about that, as you can well imagine.  But, since there were no bruises at any of the pain points all down my left side, I realized that it was ALL in my spine.  When he worked on my neck something like lighting bolts shot from my head down my arms and into my hands, that’s where the "OH!" came from. Sure enough, got my grip back.  Not just that but the hunched over person who walked into he office got off of the floor due to having to be there and walked about doing pirouettes just because I could.  Then I got back down on the floor to play with my Wee Yorkie who couldn't be left alone (dying).  There was a rib which is always twisted, I call it Adams rib, it's twisted no longer and I can breath again! I can also look to my left and right, got my radius back!
Chiropractic is like a miracle, in the right hands,  hands that have been blessed by God... a woman hunched in pain can haul her carcass into the office and come out dancing... just one word for it miracle workers. Ok, two words hehe.  People like Mike, who put the patients first, who was trained up by a mentor who only wanted what was best for his patients, who grew up KNOWING what he wanted to do with his life.  You put these things together and you have one heck of a man, who’s hands are blessed of the Lord.  I know He could make me walk again if I were only able to see Mike a few times a week for 3 months.  I miss living close enough to make that happen.
The terrible things is, you will never keep me off of the ladders,,, stools, high chairs, tops of tables, etc.  Just last night I was on top of a table!, again!  Looking through the boxes for O rings. I know, I know, but I know it wont stop until I’m dead.  As YOU full well know.
This week we will be shipping what was dyed last week.  Currently we are accumulating orders for the last dye day before the Holiday shut down, next week.  We are getting a lot of orders for Lady Rose so I'm assuming some photos got out there?  Love that gal, she's sooo pretty.

Slap Down

Well Kiddies, it has happened, what comes around to everyone who's infirmed at some point or other.  The elderly fear it more then someone who's young and fit, two things which I am not any longer.  I'm stronger and more flexible then most invalids per a recent doctors exam, I owe that to all of you, you keep me hustling and keep me fitter then I would be if I didn't have you all relying on me.  My sense of duty and obligation keep me fighting the ailments.
We planned a small gathering for Christmas, I fear it might be our last as our children are all grown up and could move out at any time and this sort of "party" isn't something I ever do.  I was a great hostess in the past, we rarely have people over as I'm still I Type A who wants everything perfect.
Today we made lists while we were working.  It started out as a lovely day.  Pixie #1 was Mini Me, editing Mirkwood all day beside me as I worked on making necklaces and stitch markers.  We almost finished but had to stop as we needed food (didn't eat all day).  What with having two of myself, I felt like we'd done a lot of work and had gotten a lot accomplished even though I didn't finish and didn't get to the bracelets.

Then there are priorities, I had to get started on the house.  I knew it would take me all the time left to get it in shape, slowly and over time with breaks.  Mind you, we still had not eaten and it was getting onto night.  We started on the oven, replaced the ignition switch and I washed what I could of it while it was in pieces.  Then we moved onto the Great Wall O Books,,, literally 15 foot by 9-10 feet high.  We had to dump at least 1/3rd of them as it was so cluttered it just looked a total and complete wreak.  There's nothing I dislike so much as a book case which has double stacked books and some laying horizontal across the top.  So we weeded out I believe 3-4 boxes full.  I was just getting to the end when the chair gave way.  Yup, there I lay screaming bloody murder on the floor, didn't even care that my skirt had flipped up, I was in agony.  I didn't just fall... no I had to have the chair smash under me, it just sort of collapsed.  It only took a few seconds but it felt like an eternity passed.  I landed BAD! My entire left side is in agony, every part of my left side is screaming as I type.  I fear going to sleep for fear of the waking, as we all full well know... it's always worse the next day.  Pixie #1 will have to do all the dyeing of the yarn that's soaking SOLO.  Something that's never happened before.  She's hypoglycemic, she doesn't eat, (wonder where she gets it from?) then she can think let alone see straight.  On top of that job she's got to home school herself and possibly tend to a bed bound Mum, who might need to be pried, screaming out of her bed and into the bath to soak the pain away.
Kev said, I what did he say?  It was so durn cute. I jumped on the floor?  It jumped on me?  I dunno but there were a few quips after they got me up with just a few bruises and the pained side, no broken bones, we were all pretty revealed.  Course tomorrow is another day.
This is why I don't have Peeps over, why I always tell DH no. It's just too much for me any more.  Just Thanksgiving dinner for my immediate family only, was too much for me this year.  I insisted on doing the shopping.  Those of you who know me know that I can't walk a store but I did.  I have only just started to recover from the store and then getting the bird into the oven the next day, along with the oven fiasco.  I've been in a great deal of pain this past week and it looks like I'm down for the count this week as well.
Figured ya'll should be the first to hear it, from the horse.  Hopefully it wont affect you much if any... this is a well oiled machine and I believe it can continue to function without me being so very hands on.  "We" will continue to dye tomorrow and then probably one more time before the Holidays are upon us.
One news worthy note before I close.  Remember a few years back I signed a book contract?  Well, I asked the publisher for the rights back as well as my samples.  Why?  It's been like 3 years and I haven't heard anything for the last year.  So, we are going to self publish each pattern solo as kits!  Ya gotta have yarn and goodies with a pattern right?  I'm very excited to get my baby back.  The samples have all been gone for so long that I have forgotten what they all look like.  I can tell you that it's all color work.  It was going to be called The Color Work World of a Knitting Fanatic.  Now that we are officially Yarn Fairy and the Pixies that will have to change.
Hope you are all well and happy and that you were able to hold onto your Christmas presents and not open them until the 25th like good little Kiddies.  If not I hope that you enjoy them in good health.  More will be shipping out next week.

The Long Weekend

Well Kiddies,
Looks like everyone here is of the same mind, we need a short time off.  This effects all orders prior to November 21, orders after that date have been dyed and are just waiting for tomorrows mail to come in. Orders after that date needed to be dyed and that will happen when we get back from our long weekend with family.  We will still take orders for the book and will still be in contact with you.  Just no more dyeing until first week in December, which is to say, next week. LOL
I rarely take time off but what with the whirlwind that has been opening two KAL's at one time, custom orders, kits and old KAL's that are still up on the blog... there are just too many order to keep up with. Which means we are going to grow, again! LOL It's a great thing and we are very happy about it, just need to learn exactly what that looks like.  Pixie's stepping into larger shoes and becoming Fairy's I imagine.
While I'm here, all the cashcob has been wound and there is just a bit left on the cones.  If you want this, order it ASAP under the Katya page.  It's almost all sold out.
When we come back you have a few things to look forward to.  We are hard at work getting patterns ready for publications.  Do you remember Seaweed Stockings?  They are on the very last push and will be ready first.  Bun & Kid our new bases in a hat and scarf set.  We have V4 which is:
V=Victory-I'm finally publishing a sweater pattern
V=Variegates-this one screams for variegated yarn
V=V neck LOL
V=Vest, can be a vest or a pullover sweater.
There's instructions for the vest, 3/4 length sleeves as well as long sleeves.  I can't wait to share.
Lastly there's the next KAL.  We are doing the sock weight skirt.  Some yarn has been dyed and we pretty much have everything nailed down, can't wait to begin to see this one take shape.
Back in a week.  You all enjoy your family get together and the food that inevitably follows.  Get energized as I'm sure to put you to have you hopping once you come back.

Any thing that can go wrong will go wrong...

Isn't that Murphy's Law?  We have been having quite a few weeks now.  I keep saying stuff like, I'm shipping this week.  Then I have to come in here and say, it didn't happen.  This all started with the winder I believe.  Yeah, I don't think it was before then.  The electric winder broke and we still had about 130,000 yards of cobweb to wind.  Which we are now hand winding.
All week it went like that.  I'd lay out everything I needed to ship and then run out of a key component.  Not just something I can make but something that I have to buy something else for before I can make it.
What happened to the honey beads I ordered?  Looked online through ALL the orders and none of them have honey on them.  I only right this minute realized that it should have been smoke and not honey.  Good thing I didn't close out the order last night.
Once I was stopped dead in my tracks due to running out of leaves for the Mirkwood KAL.  No leaves, no shipping.
Where's the beads for Persimmon?  Oh we didn't order them?  Where's the other 5 beads sacks that should be in this bag that I just opened fresh from the wholesaler? Come to that, where's the other kilo?
GET THIS!  Why are these tiny 11/0 beads skittering all over the place?  Each hank should be individual... instead one strand was attached to another hank.  Like they were married for crying out loud.
Here's this order, where's the silk that goes into it?  Hit the dye pots cause we are missing a few skeins.  Lets double check and make sure it's just there two.  NO?  No it's 20 skeins you say?  Ok, we dye again tomorrow.
The camel/silk came in today?  Ok, so we dye again tomorrow.
Last night we were stopped dead due to running out of the bead containers that I had to put into that kit!  If I wouldn't have told all of you that I was putting them into the kit I would have been able to ship anyway as you wouldn't be expecting them but no.  Not only did I take a photo of the freebies but I did a video of them too!  Talk about painting yourself into a corner.  At about the same time as I ran out of the containers I ran out of bracelets for Mirkwood.
All this time I'd been packaging all the stuff that's outside of the USA so that they MIGHT be able to start with us.  Well, when DH said, "I'm leaving in a few minutes, you know that right?"  I just sat down, put my head down on my desk and cried!  That was it.  You see, he does all the International shipping. WAAAAA!  Not only that but he's gone all day today until late at night and again tomorrow when he goes to work.  Monday's are hard on him and he comes home exhausted.
Yeah,,, that's my week in a nutshell.  WOW!, nuts right!!
Normally I like to design on Sundays due to the fact that there's no one here to interrupt.  I normally can get a good deal of work done.  For some reason, designing,,, it takes uninterrupted time and I have so much to do yet.  The socks front is done and the back is niggling at my mind just yet.  There are a few drafts some... really fun.  But then I have this list I made up last night that's 2 pages long going on about all the things I need to do before I can ship. A really important one is to close the bead order BUT what if I need some hardware?  I need to check to see who needs how many of what.
Then I really WANT to get a photo of what happened to the baby/camel and silk when it went into a spruce kettle, marriage made in heaven.  Then there's Duo and Paca Peds...

OH and Pixie Mazy... SWEATER! Our first real sweater from start to finish.  The pattern is written, it's even TKed.  I just need to knit it.
ooooowww then there's our skirts that I'd like to photo DD got Poison and I got DS gorgeous blues!  Turquoise, sapphire and royal... these are all on our 822 sock weight for the ponch/skirt for 2015.  Course DD has this crazy skirt that's either knee length or buttoned up it goes longer!  CaU T E !  Each has ruffles, 3 tiered in the three colors.
Looks like all the yarn is dry.  I really should get out of bed and at least LOOK at the whirlwind that we left on the tables.  EVERY stinking work surface is covered.  Either that or go watch Haven and say forget it all.  Thing is I need to know how many necklaces, bracelets, sm sets I need for all these orders and I just can't do it again. UGH!  Not today.... and on the 7th day He rested.  If He got to rest surely I do as well?  I should go knit on my Mirkwood socks and enjoy the day. But what I will end up doing is finding out what I need to close out that order.  It's not going to happen solo, I need to get up.  This is why you don't have your notification from paypal that you shipped. WAAAAAAAAAAA Hang in there, it WILL happen.  Good thing these KAL's aren't starting for another month!

New Yarns

Just in some fantastic new additions to our yarn family. This is the one I'm most transfixed by.  Can you see that one strand is pale grey?  That's alpaca and the other strand is merino.  I can so see this knit up in cabled socks or kilt socks. NUMMY just as it is bare.  There's 438 yards per 100g skein and I can't wait to dig in.

While adding base yarns we got Pixie Paca in sock weight, 438 yards per 100 skein... same as our Paca it's baby alpaca, silk and cashmere,,, some of the most amazing yarn on the planet... for your FEET!  We are restocking our merino/nylon/cashmere as well as the camel/silk lace.  If you would like to place an order for any of these yarns, please PM me at (wmdress at sbcglobal dot net) and we can work something up for you.
We need names for our new yarns.  I thought Pixie Paca Peds would be cute for the sock.  The photo above, Dirty Duo comes to mind, what say you?

When you need it the most... you know you wont get it.

You ever have one of those weeks where nothing seems to go right?  This has been one for me... started with the winder breaking.  Normally I will start a bead order on Friday and carry it through to Sunday night when I close it. Mind these are large orders that accumulate due to our needs.  I ordered caps for Mirkwood as the wrong size came in and 1/2 kilos of beads all that sort of stuff that I wanted to work on this week.  It only takes TWO days for it to get here and I know that so I expected it today.  Well, it's gone for a RIDE! Stinking shipping, UGH.  I tell you I have had more parcels go to ports far and near and never coming to land at home.  This shipment originated up the coast from me just right up the coast!!!! we are on the West Coast... where's my parcel?  On the EAST COAST! Having coffee and donuts, one must presume. Anything and anywhere but coming home.  It says it will be here on Friday which means I will be working through the weekend, again.  It also means that your shipments aren't going to start next week as I'd anticipated but the following week.  I'm really sorry but this one isn't on me... totally out of my control. Mind, it's not just Fed Ex, I have seen all of them do this. The shipment was about a $500+ order as there was a lot of Katya beads in there too.  So hang on, we are coast hoping.

Worst Fear

As you all know we have a skein winder which turns cones into skeins of yarn.  What you might not know is that my worst fear is of this thing falling apart and flying at me. I bought a dimmer switch with my electric spinning wheel and tried to make the thing go slower but there was just one speed with this thing, fast, or FASTER. Of course when you have a fear like this, it happens!  I was winding up the cashmere for the KAL and I heard something going tink tink... that was my only warning then we had a chunk come of which cut my hand and a bar fly off and hit the other wrist.  At first I thought something was broken in my wrist,,, yeah hit hard.  It was swollen, red and angry looking so we hit the RICE, rest, ice, compress elevate.
Here is the mess we have to fix, CASHMERE!!! SO NOT cheap... can't just dump it into the trash and start again and this is the culprit.
I'm so afraid of this machine now that I wont ever use it again.  NO WAY will I sit there scared that it will fly off and NO WAY is my Mum sitting here EVER again, PERIOD, she was Pixie #4 but after this, she's going to flutter off to the Realm of the Fae for a well deserved break.  Can you imagine if my Mom had been there instead of me!  FREAK, I'd have lost it and there'd be Hades to pay.
Instead I just want a refund so I can buy a sturdy winder that actually works and doesn't try to kill me.

On the brighter side of all things Fae, check this out!  You asked for it... you got it. This covers a king sized bed.
Top to bottom:
The CashCob upper left, Ouro, Fae Garden, custom order,
Next row, more CashCob to Dickens, still need more Dickens,
Then a mass of Mirkwood.  All that Bark,,, it's showing up darker then it looks in person so I'm tossing them all back into kettles of brown... it's far too multi for my liking so we are going to tone it down a good bit.
What do you think?  I have a massive pile of SM's jewelry and the like but to pull all of that into a pile would mean unboxing each individual order, that I can't do.  Hum... I could put stacks of boxes and open the top one... there's a though.  Ok, so it might follow but it's what I'm meant to be doing today so I must away.  Wednesday is another dye day, working hard over here.
Check out the ChiaoGoo page, I'm loading the new crochet hooks now.  They are lovely, come with a great wooden, carved box.  They are worth it for the box alone.  Dirt cheap for a short time.

Chatty Patty must away, hope you are having a great day.

Birthday week

Before I get into this I have to tell you, we got the Radiologists report from the MRI I took last week.  It now show's mild- MODERATE! A word we have not heard before.  I'M GOING TO A BACK SURGEON!  Finally!  Pray that he will be able to do something here.  I have a 2mm bulge,,, seems really small and L-5 to S-1 has never been involved, S1 that is.  If he can just do something minor I would be in hog heaven.  What a birthday present eh?  I couldn't ask for anything I want more strongly then just to walk, cook and clean again.  Crazy but all I want for my birthday is to clean my toilet! :-)
For some reason, in this house, we celebrate my birthday over a week. Guess what's coming round?  My birthday!  Don't ask me how old I am, I can never remember.  Normally I look to DH but he's started to have to do math in order to figure it out.
All this to say that I got my first present.  A box!!! full from a dear, much beloved, friend.  In spring she made me this green rabbit (left) who's now decked out in faux opals.  My buns tails almost worn off as it's made of 50/50 angora/wool, I sleep with it nightly and hold onto the tail. Something I've done since a wee child.  Now I can make my own ani up in all angora Lush fiber.  Box wouldn't be complete without a fairy, she's an ornament for our 15' tree.  The orange chocolate sticks were brought state side by her traveling hubby, all the way from Germany! LOVE IT!  See the shiny thing to the right of the chocolate sticks, it's my Opal soap rock that she know's I love.  I JUST ran out of the last one she sent to me, such timing.  She know's I adore scents so I got 2 candles, both smell so nummy! Along with a bit of potpourri.  I have to wait for the first rain as my beloved and bestest girl are still in pretty high allergy mode.  My bedside kettle will make me a cup of Chai tomorrow while I begin to read through a series of books.  Lately I've felt I read everything there was out there... low and behold here's something I haven't seen!  YIPEE!  They are much loved and from her owe personal library. You know what that means?  She really loves me to give up something so precious!  The cards great!  That fronts all felt sewn on and when opened it plays What a Wonderful World.  Thank you so much deary, I love you for remembering me.  And so timely eh?  Those of you who read the Riot thread in Rav know what I'm talking about.
Speaking of being "down", I was literally put down today.  I slept all day, rising only long enough for oatmeal in the am and a smoothie later. Why? After dye day yesterday.  See the drying wrack in the front?  That's all we used to have to dye. Which turned into towels over all the chairs and then we knew we had to move outside. Now it's the wrack, the pole outside which dries them much faster and this massive line which goes across the TWO car garage!  You always want to see all the yarn from a dye day and I'm very bad at taking photos for you.  Here you have it, all deep dark saturated colors... some are for KALs, current and upcoming.  The balance of all this yarn is TWIST!  I hope to load it soon for you on the Yahoo Group so do go individual mail if you want a slice of the pie.  There's something for everyone, all sock and lace but such stunning examples of said bases.  Everything from tencel blends to solid silk and everything in between, you will love it, promise.

Lastly I will share our love of books with you, including our animal friends.
Must away Bun & Kid are calling me.  Have a great weekend.

Knit Skirts?

Inquiring minds want to know.  How do you feel about a knit skirt? I have several drafts in my design book, all very simple and easy to change sizes depending on how many stitches you c/o.  Think of a poncho or a circular shawl with a large hole in the center.

Of course a circular will give you a very full skirt and will take a good deal of time.  This is something I want to get into in the future as it would make a GREAT bottom half to a wedding dress.  I have the tencel and tiny beads all ready.  But that's not what we are talking about.  I'm thinking of a more tubular shape.

One in which begins with a button band and is worked in a variety of lace, cable, and texture in sections.
These sections can be worked as long as you need and will increase gradually to be worked in order.  You can make your skirt as long or short as you like, floor length or mini.  I would like you to answer the poll at the right.  Don't want to make a skirt? You could make yours a poncho instead.  Can't see the poll?  Go full screen and then you will.

Three bags full

A short story.........
Once upon a time, in the Provence in the mountains, there was a Yarn Fairy and some Pixies. They turned cream yarn into all the brilliant colors of the rainbow. These yarns were made into lovely shawls which warmed everyone in the Provence.
One year for Christmas all the Pixies gathered and dyed their hearts out; They took 3 huge comforter size bags full of cream yarn and began to dye.
After just a few hours they got sick and could dye no longer. You see, they were creating such tremendous clouds of fumes that they all became very sick.  They discovered their problem, they had worked unprotected and unventilated, so they purchased respirators and eye goggles. Have you ever seen fae so equipped?
They now walk about saying, "Are you my Mummy?" and bump into walls while twirling about.
After many weeks the yarn was all completed and beautiful. For two days they labeled all those skeins of yarn (it was crazy!).
They also took another day to make lovely jewelry and stitch markers.  Yet another day to wrap up all those rainbow yarns into packages, tied with a pretty pink bow.
Miss Yellow Shoes Yarn Mountain
While they wanted to take photos of the yarn to prove it had been done, they just could not; You see, this one... it was painful, both physically and emotionally. They'd never taken this long to dye yarn before, feeling the pressure to get it out they couldn't take the photo. The photo would have required placing a tarp down to keep the yarn clean, pulling out all the yarn, and packing it back up again.  It all sounded like so much effort they did not take the picture. So while there is no proof we must take it on faith, that it was done and the fae dyed yarn for all the Provence.
Finally they sat there, going from the oldest of oldest parcels to the most recent parcel.  They very carefully packed it up in preparation to wing it's way around the globe.
They were a happy bunch to begin with but after all that work they began to be really loopy!   After all the parcels were wrapped and the labels were being slapped on... the belly laughing started, all the relief came out from finally getting through so much yarn. More yarn than they'd ever dyed before, and they all got really goofy and laughed and laughed!
When the yarn parcels were all back into the 3 massive bags they collapsed on the bed and couldn't speak for HOURS!  They sat in companionable silence, one cross stitching, the other knitting with CREAM colored yarn.
                     .............. The End
I hope you enjoyed my silly story which details the events of the last 30 or so days.  Now I will get you caught up on my life.
Health... not so good, after about 10 days of being able to walk my back went right back to how it had been, only worse.  We are trying to get a referral to a back surgeon and get a new MRI.
Knitting, I finished so many items it's CRAZY, they all were finished in the same week too.  I recently bound off the samples for our shawls, Ouroboros, Dickens, Modern Heirloom (so lovely!) MMario KAL circular shawl.  Then birthday cake socks, watermelon socks and a top made from sugar cane with purls on it.  I have them all in a big bag waiting for a photo shoot day.  Instead of c/oing anything I pulled out my UFO's.  Poor dears have been clamoring for my attention, some for years.  I have a sweater in 50/50 tencel in the St. Lucia color way, 2 cream shawls and a denim cabled top which is so close to being done.  They are all getting equal attention, except the cables as I'm not always up to them.
Normally after shipping out so much yarn, I would a cleared work space, not so.  My desk is covered with this major large scrapbook I'm making.  I am thinking about redoing the outside as the inside pages are huge.  The spine is too small so they don't fit... this per the measurements I was given in the tutorial... so they don't work on the inside.  I might have to rip it apart and buy new stuff and start again.  DD said to just walk away from the outside of the book and make another and use that for something else.  She's right of course.  That's just NOT something I do.  I'm the person who will not rip.  Even in designing... I find an error say after the first repeat... rather then rip out the sample, I will leave it in and do the next repeat... still don't like it and change it again.  LOL I do not rip.  Time will out.
My wee Yorkie is still here with us, every day I wonder if it will be his last but he's hanging in there.  Just as sweet and loving as ever, although he doesn't allow me to be out of his line of vision, at all.  Which is sort of cute, in a very stalker sort of way.
Well that's it kiddies, felt like you needed an update.  Oh and for those of you who didn't get your yarn, it's coming in on Monday, we are dyeing again on Tuesday.  No rest for the weary.  Or is that wicked?  LOL have a great day.

Hammer Time

SUP Kiddies? It's Hammer time, sing it with me.  Anyone dyeing to know how I'm doing?  Day 10 past the final surgery hit and I've got so much less pain!  I can walk, talk and chew gum all at the same time. They worked so good that I'm now scared you ain't gonna see hide nor hair of me!  LOL I have been cooking, cleaning and doing GREAT! We've had Sinigang, Chili and GF cornbread and barbecue chicken with corn on the cob and German potato salad.  It's been a great food week here.  Tonight I'm making a millet stir fry.
The things you miss when you can't walk for 6 years... the things you take for granted when you can walk.  All I wanted to do all these years was to cook and clean for my family.  The first day DD and I did my bathroom.  I felt like I was going to vomit, sweat drenched but I did it.  Late that night I walked up our hill to the gate, actually left our property and walked to the main road.  Again felt like I was going to vomit and covered in sweat but I AM determined to regain what I have lost over these last 6 years.  The next day I cleaned our room and my work space.  I deep cleaned and DH came home to NO allergies that night YIPEE! Poor dear was allergic to our room. DS steam cleaned the carpets and I destashed a bunch of stuff that was gathering dust.  I don't recall feeling the upset tummy but I do remember all the sweat. It's not like I have NO pain, there's still plenty of pain there and I know that all that sweat is reporting it,,, I'm just pushing through the pain. Before, I would tell the doctors that I dyed yarn, spun and wound yarn... like that was exercise, coming to realize just how wrong I was.  Just how much muscle mass I have lost being in bed all these years.  I'm sore, the good kind in which muscles are building again type of sore. Here's the kicker... Doc tells me this isn't permanent that the nerves regenerate daily.  The maximum amount of time I will get is either 1-2 years.  I feel twinges and at times it still goes out and I can't walk but for the most part I'm doing a jig.  I'm wondering if there's a surgery to permanently repair me.  We go to see him in a few weeks and will ask him then.  For instance, today I can't walk for right now.  Earlier I could, it's trying and scary to think of actually leaving the house.
We had a major dye day, the first in which we did 300 skeins, it was way too much and took us some long hard days to finish but we did it. It was INSANITY.  After about 5 hours DD and I both loose it.  She was smart and left, I continued for another hour.  We got back to it at noon the following day and pressed on until 8pm.  We stopped for $70 worth of taco's in there as I had to feed the family since we do this in our kitchen.  It's really time to think about a dedicated dye space I just haven't been able to walk.  We have a large barn where we really should be doing this. Now that I can walk I really feel like we should be down there.  Outside in the fresh air instead of breathing all those fumes.
That's the other thing, we have been wearing flimsy masks and really need to bump up to full throttle.  "Are you my Mummy?" We were so sick, headaches, couldn't speak correctly, felt faint, and got plumb loopy towards the end of the night.  It was NUTTER!  When it came time to rinse all that yarn that was laid out to dry, DD and I just wanted to cry.  We new it was going to turn into three days.  Instead Pixie #2 decided to step in and help! YIPEE! He's back in the fold and I don't know what I'd do without him.  He got it all rinsed and onto the rack in like 2 hours!  It was insane but he's got it down pat.  Plus he was fresh where we were worn out. I was so happy not to have to crawl around, getting soaked while rinsing all that yarn.  I tell you it was insanity and we will NEVER try over 150ish skeins again in one setting.
Speaking of Dickens, have you checked out the Dickens page recently?  There are now THREE prizes for the first three people who finish their shawls.  There's a new Cameo necklace and I really want to make Lady Mary but so far no one has asked for her.  I have all the vintage glasses to work her up in and can't wait.  I might have to put her up on DD's Etsy shop for her to sell after it's all said and done.
The other day I got in some Musk Ox and Huacaya fibers, some of the most expensive fibers in the world as there are so few of the Musk Ox left so they have the corner on the market.  I'm going in for more before it disappears until next spring.  Found the best place to buy it here :-) There's only ONE person in the lux sock category of the club this time around and she's getting HANDSPUN! LOL no, not quivet or even the alpaca but I have a bunch done here that's never going to be used if I wait for myself to get round to it.
Mom's not doing so good though.  She fell and fractured a disk, she's a mess now.  I feel bad for her as I know the emotional stuff that she's going to have to plow through as well as the physical pain.  It's hard to lose mobility and have to recover but at least she can.  I believe if she doesn't re-injure the area, if she lays down in bed to allow the bones to knit, that in 6 weeks her bones will be back to normal and she will be out and about again in no time. Is that weird or what?  I was down for SIX long years, the day I get up, she fell down.  She can still get around, just with a lot of pain.  She drives herself to the doctor and the pharmacy,,, that's something I haven't done in a very long time.  I'm really looking forward to getting out.  Got some new dresses and I'm ready!  Look out world, here I come.
I'm also looking forward to scrap booking again.  I didn't realize just how much time you spend on your feet while cutting all that paper.  The initial chipboard has to be cut on the guillotine as it's thick.  Then there are the multiple cuts for the album pages in cardstock when you need it again. YIPEE I can do it again but not until after my room is totally destashed and all the yarn is shipped out.  I still have like 200 skeins to ship but I have to do that on another day as I'm pretty flattened out from all the work that I have done.
Must away, the world is calling and I haven't set down to my e-mails for days!  ENJOY!

Backlog

Well Kiddies, I have this huge backlog of goodies I've been wanting to share.  First up the health though as so many have been asking.  I had the 2 surgeries and am still in recover.  Saw Doc this past week, (days are a blur) and he said I have another 10 days at least of recovering to do.  Which is good cause I thought I was done and it didn't work.  I have had 2 very good/great days in these last few weeks where I had ZERO of the crippling pain which keeps me from walking.  Those two days were marvelous, on the last one I got to see my grand baby, our LAFD and DIL... that was GREAT!  They got our call, VERY last minute, with dinner on the stove, dropped everything to come out and meet with us.  I was so happy that I'm afraid I didn't pay much attention to the food.  LOL  I have no idea what I ate but I had a great time with my grand baby, he's such a character and a total charmer.  Had me singing with him and talking volcanoes and well, I'm in love, he's amazing.  I walked all over Rite Aid and only had a whinge ONCE, the rest of the time I was fine.  In and out of two medical facilities to see two doctors.  Did a wee jig for the children and well, it was great.  I slept really well that night.  Now I'm still paying for it.  I got two good days, more will come.  Doc is weaning me off of the drugs... well, he thinks he is.  So far I haven't been able to skip any as I'm recovering from my jig date.  LOL
I promised to share Johnny #5 with you all,  here he is.  Isn't he adorable!  Got his wee tripod and he's all set for adventure.  He's been taking all the great close up shots I've been getting.  I hope to be able to walk to get the yarn outside and get even better photos of the yarn for you in the future with my wee boy here.

Some fiber which was purchased and I LOVE, just had to share.  The box full of Loop is for their Spin a Long over this month. LOVE me some Loop center pull batts.  I really wanted to play along but so far only got as far as having the wheel brought back into my room.  Soon.  The misc fibers are all from the Paradise Fibers club, love this club.  They now have a yarn one and we might be up next year!  FUN eh!
As I'm confined to my bed (not for much longer I hope) you all know my quilts have been being tortured by our pets.  Decided it was time to get a comforter which could be washed.  Thought it would be cheaper,,, yeah right!  Ended up with a 2 inch feather mattress topper for my side of the bed, I have been sleeping so much better of late.  Course the curtains have been up for 8 years and are trashed so I got new ones that are just like that striped pillow top center, you can't see much of it.  The bedding is fun and it's nice to see something different.  As a quilter though I can tell you this comforter is NOT going to wash well.  It's not tied nor quilted down... there are just the top, bottom and the poly bat... HOW is all that poly fill not going to bunch up in a corner I ask you?  Does anyone know?
On to the fun stuff, aren't these little tins fun?  I haven't decided what to put into them yet but I will soon as everything gets filled around here.  See the wee crystal ink well?  I thought it would have a screw top but as it doesn't NO WAY I'm going to actually put any ink into it.  I do love my ostrich pen though... it's like 3 foot long!
Got this lovely lace Scentzy from a darling customer who wanted to brighten my day.  Came in on the day of the first surgery, talk about timing! I LOVE stinky stuff so this has been so much fun.  It's lace so it's really pretty to boot.  Thank you deary.  It sits near my tea service.  Tea for one, the china pot is actually a very old electric kettle.  When I find another as pretty or prettier I will eventually have to replace it as the plug is scary!  The silver thingy is for sugar cubes, vanilla candle and way in the back, 4 small journals all Jane Austin dance card books!
For years now I have wanted a vanity complete with silver hand mirror and now I have one.  Along with a crystal powder pot and all my creams are in crystal or blue glass fun!  Oh an see there on the bottom left... an Elgin pocket watch from 1905.  It's got a serial number in it and I was able to track down all the information.  It's in great shape and just last night I found out that it actually works!  OVERJOYED!  I have been tracking one on e-bay that's much like this one only the crystal is cracked in three places and its more worn down.  Not that I'd sell it mind you, it's too precious.  Have a look at all the other goodies, love my new boxes.
Last but not least, if you are one of my snail mail cronies (what a thing to call my best buds!) you will end up being WAXED!  YUPPERS sealing wax and an M on a wooden handle.  CRAZY the things I end up getting in the mail eh!
DH called me a gypsy the other day, I called myself a Hippy,,, I love the broomstick skirts and gauzy tops.  What with my amigos keeping me bra free, I really feel like I was part and parcel to the bra burning era.  Alas I was a bit too young to need one during the burning.  What with heal, rise and walk, I need new clothes.  All my skirts are trashed, I didn't care before as I never left the house... now I find myself patching and applying lace.  I went shopping once and came away with only 3 dresses for a mint!  I need to find outlet prices for broomstick skirts.  HUM.... wonder where that will be?  Fortunately I can sew and have taught DD so we have always been able to get what we need even if it's from a bolt of fabric. :-)
There's so much more but I really want to work on my Victorian Cameo Necklace.  All these nummy goodies and they are just screaming,,, come out and play,,, you know you want to play,,, you know you want to watch Monarch of the Glen and play with pearls so come out and play. Have a great weekend.

PG Holyfield

I have so much bottled up and lists of things I wanted to share with you.  They all just broke apart like so many shards of glass from a crystal vase dropped on a tile floor.  I got an e-mail from Pip Ballentine, a site update....  I didn't know, PG Holyfield is dead.  Who is he you ask?  If you are interested in science fiction/fantasy I don't need to tell you.
He's best known for his genius Murder at Avedon Hill, which I have listened to many, many times.  He's left behind 3 girls and his beloved Kim.
Later, once I finish hurting, once the lump leaves my throat, I'm going here to do the only thing left to me.  The only thing that's left for any of us to do, help those children.  I read through all the posts on that site, the girls enjoy seeing the number climb, so I want to try and make them smile. Can you too?  I don't normally do stuff like this but PG helped me through a rough time in my life... just by publishing his book.
He was so young and he left the world so fast, it's insanity.  He touched so many lives through his work in the audio world, he will be sorely missed.
