Last minute thread freebie

Well kiddies, this is the very last day and I just found out about it or I would have told you sooner.  A friend of mine told me about this and said it was legit, that she's already gotten her thread.  This is a new embroidery thread company who's advertizing ploy was to send 3 free skeins of floss to whomever asked... only todays the last day so I hope this reaches you in time.  Ignore the paypal and the math problem is to be solved.  LOL I thought it was my phone number!  Then I tried replicating the problem.  Then I realized all that was needed in the box was the answer to the equation!!  LOL

The reason I ordered the sample was to if it might work for my wedding skirt that I'm going to make for DS's wedding.  Scroll down to see the mad turquoise dye day we had.  We ended up with enough good stuff to make my skirt for the wedding.  I can see it in my minds eye and yesterday I saw it in an old black and white movie!  It's an original replication from the 40's!!!  Go figure!

The underskirt is of a turquoise satiny fabric, thin, good for the hot LA weather in July!  Then over it I have the light blue lace fabric to subdue the underside.  It will make an a-line not so fullish paneled underskirt and then the over gets a bit fuller in the lace fabric.  I always new that I wanted the front to ride higher then the back (in the lace) and that I wanted to trim it.  What I didn't see was that a wee bit of embroidery would look smashing on a plain lace edging!  The thread I just got off of the site will be put to that use, I got a violet, an ecru and a turquoise.  It should be fun seeing what comes of it.  I only hope the style is flattering and not going to help make me look more like a stranded whale on the beach!

So what color did you order?

Contest help, more editing and a NEW BOOK!

Hi Kiddies, hope you are having a great day.

I have long been wanting to hold a contest for a pattern and some of my yarn but haven't been able to figure out the guidelines and was hoping for some advice.  I like asking you all for advice as you are all so very helpful. :-) Here's what I have worked up so far.
1) For each person you bring to my blog who signs on as a follower, you get one entry.
2) No entries from the same household just a different computer. ;-)
3) Contest open for one month?
4) seems like there should be more, like something is missing, can you think of what it is.  I knew you could!  Please comment below.  BTW, I can't reply to comments but I do read them all.

Still waiting for my separate URL for the purchase of the book I'm in, WWMDfK, see the little gadget there on the right?  As soon as I get my URL it will go there and you all will be able to purchase it and I will get a commission on top of royalties.   Cool eh!   It's only in the pre-sale stage and I'm still editing my few pages.  It's a job, don't let anyone tell you different.

Now I get to tell you all that I have been given a contract on my very OWN BOOK!  Yes indeedy you are talking with a soon (some year or other) to be author of my very own book.  Isn't that fun!  I have had all these designs dancing in my pea brain and my sketch book has been open more then it's been closed.  The book is to be color work... what else!  Those of you who know of my commissioned knitting, know that I have knit more color work then anything else so I'm getting (modesty aside) pretty good at it.  I can't be the Queen Bee cause that's Sally Melville and I'm sure I'm not the princess so we need to come up with a name for me.  ;-)  My ideas so far fit into garments like sweaters and vests, accessories like hats, bags and gloves to fun categories.  What's in fun?  Well I have had these Doctor Who socks rolling around as well as a Steam Punk something or other.  Oh AND there's a twist on this color work.  You can only do so much color work before you have to put a twist on it.  SHHH I can't say what it is just yet though.  Had too many books stolen out from under me with the proceeds still rolling into another's pockets... but that's another story.

I am going to need a bunch of knitters to test out my patterns and hold my hand while I jump up and down.  HAHA will make for some interesting knitting.  The best part is to have hands on for alll of the editing.  It's all my baby I get to actually do some talking! FUN FUN FUN!

The only bad thing that I can find in all of this is that it's soooooo terrible that I can't talk about this stuff.  You know how excited you get when you are working on projects and pulling yarn and all that... well I have to hold it all in!  I thought it was bad waiting for ads to come out and catalogs to come into print.  This is something else!  It will take about a year or more.  I think what I will do is make a journal of the entire process and then release the posts here, on my blog, after I the book hits the stands.  This way if you want to KAL you can follow me.  FUN!

This past week I posted a new pattern on Ravelry, the one I showed a bit of here in a previous post.  Birkie Love is designed to wear with sandals and has a neat foot.  All my feet are purled and so I show how to have the purls on the outside but you are knitting in stockinette... then inserting a lace pattern on the top of the foot.  It was neat to see my pattern on the pattern page at Ravelry, even though it only lasted like 30 minutes. Cool beans eh?
The next pattern will either be totally frivolous,,, a beaded (size 11 thank you very much!!! seed bead) thread lace hankie!  Or the lime green cashmere socks I have been writing as I went along.  I made up a pattern and didn't nail it until the ankle so when they are photographed, they are going to have to go into shoes!  HAHA but the pattern is lovely now and exactly what I want.  I keep thinking I should just hem and end them then rip it back to finish the yarn up.  I like to finish up the entire skein which is why I knit toe up.,,, then too it's cashmere... they are getting knit till there's no more yarn left!

BTW, the frivolous item above, it was entered into the What Would Jane Austen knit e-mag search ... I spoke with the editor of Spin Off the other day and she's returning my projects.  I only had 30 days to work up the portfolio and I had like 9 items LOL.   I had never sent in a proposal and don't even know what they are supposed to look like.  Mine was in a binder etc. etc. She said one of the designs made it down to the final cut before the last so I "almost" made it in even though they were only partially baked ideas.  Then too I was up against the dream team, I'm sure there will be some big names in the final magazine.  It was an experience, PHEW I'm glad it's over though so that now I can send those items on to fruition as I wrote out the patterns as I was doing the swatching and designing.

Now, if I could only finish up this afghan I have been commissioned on.  UGH it's just draaawwwwing out!  Thing have a way of doing that when you have something else that you are just itching to get involved in.  I shouldn't say that it's drawing out as I only recieved the yarn on about 3-15 and it's about a twin size so I'm really flying but then I have no life!

HAHA pretty good for someone who's house and chair bound eh?  I may not get out much but I sure get around!  Off to my editing, ya'll have a great weekend.

Autographs and birthdays!

How much fun is this!  A virtual book signing tour in my own dining room!  I only WISH I could be there in person to sign the book.

Since the book is a co-operative we are signing little book cards and then they go to the publisher who will put them into the autographed books... wouldn't you know it... I signed sideways on the needles!  :-)  In case you missed it I didn't send round the URL to purchase the book as I'm supposed to be getting one where I get a larger proceed of the sale.... it's only open to pre-sale at the current time.

This is one of only a couple of photos of myself that I have allowed out since I got sick... it's really touched up too as the pain is read all over my face.  It's really changed since the photo of me in the ILS shawl.  :-(  Not thrilled which is why I don't allow my photo to be taken but rarely.  This was one of those life time moments though.... just wish I could be there in person at say Rhinebeck WAAAAAAAAA!

Then here's DD, she just turned 14 and the stuff her soon to be sister brought her are her favorite items.

Well I'm off to dye turquoise and black is just SCREAMING at me!
You all have a super dee dooper day!!!!

Advice please

What do you think?  This is my new pattern Birkie Love.  I made them to fit into Birkenstock sandals.  It took me much longer then I thought to make up the pattern.  Idealy I wanted to share this pattern for free.  BUT MAN it took so long.  So I'm having problems reconciling the fact that it took so long, it's a brand new stitch pattern (to my knowledge) and yet I so wanted to make a free pattern.  WAAAa tell me what to do.

Pretty aren't they?  You should feel them, this is my Morning Glory in my cashmere yarn.  I love them and can't wear anything else currently.  So what do you think?

Overdye

WOW ok, a photo speaks much louder then I can.  This is the IP overdyed with sapphire,,, now we REALLY love them.
Isn't this awesome?  DD's ended up with more different colors then mine did.  Mine is mostly the blue and green.... I'm thinking cables and lace right?  We pulled out about 2 foot of books from my library and hit them with a ton of post it notes.  I can't wait to dig in and chart up my shawl.  I'm going for the hourglass look with a ton of different kinds of cables and circles and DD is hitting the flowers and leaves.

Dyeing and Knitting necessary as breath!

Yup, went a little nuts and now I'm sitting down for a change.  DD has been a knitting fool!  Just like her ole Mam!  :-)  I'm so happy for her... no matter where life takes her or what befalls her she will always have my stash of books, yarn, needles and dye to comfort her.
These are
both patterns by Renee Leverington

We went on a dyeing crazy last night.  I got stuck on an island of my own making and knew that all the boats in the world wouldn't get me off until I'd done what was in my head... dye my island!  So dye we did.  There's the ocean, sky and sea,,, waves crashing and a little conch shell... which goes into the pal tree over your head... while you idle on a hammock.  As you look out to the sky the sun is setting and there the orangey purples came to play.  See the waves frolicking at the beach there?

Island Paradise has a dozen different colors on it.   These two on the left are available, they are my merino superwash base, 462 yards.  Would look AWESOME in my Vanilla sock with the beaded picot edging with a rainbow of beads! YUM

The plain merino on the right was to be for me for a solid knit shawl or perhaps patterned.... and if it was to be patterned then I would make a free pattern from it.  The market still needs many items made from sock yarn that are multi colored that work, so I want to help out.  Anyway on the plain merino, we are going to use it all up until there's no more left and then only order superwash as it's real swell... really takes the colors.
In mine, the plain merino (not superwash) the colors leaked out and didn't remain as vibrant.  After balling it up this morning I realized that is looked like pastel sherbet vomit and nothing much was going to change that but an over dye.  So as we speak....
     Sing it with me....
"Boil him,
Boil him,
Boil him in oil!"                                                                             Horton Here's a Who

AHHHHHHHHH much nicer.  This will actually do for lace now!  Oh well... so much for the pattern, I will play and have fun with it.  So what do you do with a dozen left over colors... dye more yarn!

In addition to all the dyeing I have been a knitting fiend trying to get ready for the work which is coming in this week.  Here's clue 3 of In Dreaming by Pandorf,,, love it!

Hope you are having a super dee dooper Monday!

Paca Love

Went off on a Suri alpaca dream today and this is where it led me.  FUN

See I found a GREAT yarn, it's a sport weight 50/50 SURI!!!! alpaca which is the softest most wonderful alpaca.  So I designed a sweater with a Paca pompadour!  HAHA it's well... you can see what all my notes are if you can read them so I wont bother to repeat it.  Fun eh!  What do you think?  What do you think about the pompadour?  Too sweet, I adore alpaca and their buck teeth, perpetual smile so this is a tribute to those sweeties who give up their coats for me.

DD's Shawl, Oolong, crocus and a discount code for you to get your own Oolong

Ok kiddies,,, Gabby here.  LOL I don't like making posts too long to read and here I am making ANOTHER one in two days but I have too!

You see, I'm extremely happy for DD (BTW, she will turn 14 on the 15th) who dumped a bunch of WIP's and decided that she would allow herself to c/o another shawl. This is Beltane by Renee Leverington who makes the best shawls.  They are relatively simply TV knitting and yet come out just lovely.  This is why DD and I have made so many of her shawls.  The original was done in what looks like a multi colored yarn with perhaps light areas so it comes out looking like cobweb to me.  What do you think? Beltane Shawl So DD chose what we thought might be similar.  It's a light weight lace that I kettle dyed in Sapphire.
There's a really large border being added to the bottom and then she's done.  she's diligently worked her way through this in the last week or so.  GREAT work says I.

Something else that I REALLY ADORE is my newish blue kettle.  We had a really wacked very old kettle, then I bought a glass one to see blooming flowers.  Now we have a very sturdy kettle in cobalt of course... it's got the heat proof handle and the spout is covered by a nicely shaped plug that is also heat proof.  We love tea so the proper kettle is very important.

OH GUYS THE CHILDREN ARE FLYING!  I can't believe it.  All the bulbs that they planted... there must have been 200 bulbs this year.  I got crocuses, daffodils, tulips, all kinds and colors.   WELL They are flying cause some are coming up already!  How cool is that!  When we came here it was 2.5 acres of weeds, star thistle, scrub,,, nothing that was worth keeping not even one tree!  So this is just really exciting to look out the window and see this!
We have two levels in front... little hillocks where the grasses don't grow much.  This particular one is down in the garden area.  So the reason I'm so happy to see these little guys is due to all the dirt hereabouts.  Mom will be thrilled to see them too I'm sure.  It's so nice to have so much when we started with so little.  I really need to get some money to buy some seeds as we have to plant cucs inside asap.  Then there's the box planter DH made.  It's needing a bit more soil and then it will be high enough for me to work at sitting on a stool.  FUN!  Springs coming peeps,,, hang in there all you folk covered in snow.

MMMMMMMM sipping Oolong from my cool cup and pot, can't recommend it enough.  I buy mine from www.iherb.com  if you go there to buy it they will ship the same or next day and they have free shipping over $40, where we live,,, they are in the next county and we get our order the next day!!!  Oh and I have a discount code for you to use WEN537 put that in when you are checking out and you will receive a discount.  My Oolong is Prince of Peace but that's out of stock now, it was a GREAT buy, 100 bags for $4.83, can't beat that.  Try Uncle Lee's, I love all of the teas I have gotten from them.  While you are there buy the bar shampoo... it's GREAT!  I love it.  Just rub the bar all over my scalp and then I condition with a really thick conditioner.

ENOUGH!  LOL 2 posts in one day...  shesh!  I hope you are having a great day too.

Sugar Ruca love and adoring tea

What a yarn!  This stuff is amazing!  It feels like silk but wears like cotton and it's as if you aren't wearing anything... it's THAT comfortable!  LOVE IT!

This is easily the best looking top I have made to date.  Simple EZ in the round bottom up as always but ,, well I think it's the yarn that made the difference.  I have more in a washed out purple and blue too.  I didn't use up all of the 4th skein so now I know I can make another top up with the 4 skeins I bought of that.  BUT before I will allow myself to get to that one.... I HAD to complete a WIP.  I know that I have 3 more tops.  Two are thin like between a fingering/sport weight.  One in blues and the other in purples... they are both done to the waist.

Nothing new here.  I was able to pull out the third top but know it's not going to be anything like this one.  I have the sleeves onto it and I'm doing up the neck.  It's the SWTC silk which is raw and put into a cable about worsted weight.  It's a beigy coloring.

Really want to finish this top though so I can get back to Mirrors while I have the time.  My contract hasn't come through for my work so wont have to worry about doing it this week anyway.

Then too my gold shot yarn should be here this week.  HAHA too bad Fort Knox! I got the gold now.  :-0)  Can't wait to make up Morning Glory which is light sapphire, lavendar with blips of pink, green and yellow... get it.. Morning Glory!  Then there's Woodland Elves which is mostly brown with green and then blips of other greens and browns and perhaps a bit of a purple or blue if they fit with the Elves that are dancing in front of me.  Can't wait to get these guys outta my head and onto their yarn.  Spring Garden is in there screaming at me... green and pink with orange, yellow and red flowers in the background.  There's still the purple on the gold shot with highlights of many colors.  I can't wait to dig into this stuff.  I LOVE DYEING!  Can't wait, hope you are having as much fun.

Oh and BTW, still loosing weight dramatically... as you can see from the above photo.  I haven't wanted to take a photo for these last few years that I have been chair bound due to the 60+ pounds I had gained.  I thought it would never come off as I have ALWAYS had to work very hard at loosing weight... but here it's just coming off in leaps and bounds.  I have no appetite either.  Please pray that there's nothing really wrong with me.  Nice to loose weight but as it's always been so very difficult  - I have to believe something is radically wrong.

So TEA!!!! ME LOVES ME SOME TTTTTTEA!  Last night DS made me a pot of Oolong tea and I thought surely it would keep me up but no.   I had no problem sleeping.  Granted there was only one tea bag,,, could that have had something to do with it?  Ya think?  I adore this tea pot and cup when drinking asian type teas too.  On the other side of the cup is a fly that the froggie needs.  Then on the lid knob there's another one.   The handle is all bamboo so it's cool to the touch.  The tea stays warm for a good long time too.  Gee, I need me a pottatea! COOL BEANS LOVE IT!

I have another thing I ADORE these days for you.  Have you noticed how wonderful my photo's have been of late?  It's due to Picasa3 which is a free application to download to your computer.  You can pay for more advanced items to use in it but I have the fully free version and it's just wonderful!  I adore warmify... a function which enhances the photo in making it bronze colored and enchanting.  DS just found sharpen for me, due to the cheap camera this function is very handy.  The I'm feeling Lucky button is just wonderful.  Sometimes I know that a photo needs more but I can't think of what type of thing it needs.  Clicking this button is very fast and easy.  So how to you get it.  You don't think I would actually keep that from you do you? Picasa 3 :-)  I love you all too much to withhold this information from anyone!  Go download it and play, you will fall in love as I have done.

Ok, this is getting really long but the children took some photos for me of the livestock since I don't get to get down there any more.  It's only 50 feet away but it's a slight grade and unfortunately difficult to get back up... not to mention impossible to stand once I get there.  Anyway,,, you need to see these.  The snow has all melted and it's about 50 now.

Left is Spanky who's fit in really well here.  He's not as vocal as any of us would like BUT when he speaks we all listen very carefully in hopes to hear it again.  It's a very deep, low baaa but we have heard it... so he has our ears.  Then ya'll know Coco, "Say hi to the nice people Coco,,, {neigh}, good boy."  We just got a massive amount of hay for the rest of winter.   I can't wait for spring when we will have a fleece!!!!  The sweetie pie who game Spanky to us will be back in Spring to sheer him Thank you Lord!  So it's worked out well for all.
BAAAAAA
