MMario KAL 4

FINISHED!  DONE! FINI! don't you love those words?  I surely do.  After binding off for three hours last night I slept with it.  Today I washed it and put it over my California King bed... thank you very much, MASSIVE!  I needed an afghan so I had this cashmere fingering I'd dyed and it was perfect.  I used 4 balls and went with the square option of the shawl.  I'm glad I b/o when I did as the size is perfect.  Some photos for your enjoyment.  More information such as needle size and yarn can be found on my page I'm WendyMcD

POSTED EARLIER_____________________________
So Mario, even though I'm running out of my third ball of yarn,,, and it's taking hours to get round the horn,,, AND I was on a KP cable that popped apart so off went all these live sts grrrrr... AND it's not like I don't have a million other things to do... I was wondering?  What did you want this to do?  When I see that last row on week 5 with it's 6 decreases I have to wonder if you didn't want it to continue?  Perhaps for 2 additional rows?
See how nicely it is lining up?  I love that large hole in the border and keep thinking that it would be fun to have a bit of a ruffle there since I will most likely be using this as an afghan.... lapghan.  What do you think of continuing it at least another 2 rows (and the plain rows between) to spread out those ///\\\ in that last row?  Then putting a seed st on for 2 more rows?  That way I'd be for sure and all that it wont roll?  I like your lace and picot edging but since this is a lapghan I'm wanting to be a bit more practical and subdued there.  I did this in a Yarn Fairy hand dyed cashmere sock which just looks smashing in this application.  I have another ball but I believe that the next one is a bit on the darker side. I can always go with that as it's the border so not a problem with the whole running out of yarn thing.

Course on the flip side I do have a book I should be getting out but I have been so very ill that it would be impossible to work on which is why I spent the day in bed with my lapghan.  BTW, it's about a yard from center point to corner.  Nice size eh what!  PM me and tell me what you think I should do from here.  THANKS!!

Dye and Tea Party

Today was great fun our friends came over and the girls had a blooming tea and small impromptu party.  Then my lovely friend brought us In N Out burgers YUM!  We are very blessed.

Here I wanted to share the Yarn Fairy and the Pixies recent dyeing adventure.   What will follow are all lace skeins, some are available, Paca is the Baby Alpaca/cashmere/silk yarn, 1312 yards/100gm per skein fine lace weight that every one loves so much.   I have been buying as much as I can afford before the supply has dried up in the US.
Introducing The Emerald greens (above) from left to right all emeralds to show you how different fibers take dyes, left non superwash on the right is the Paca, they were dyed in the same dye lot.  You can see that the paca takes color even lighter then the merino, although that merino on the left was dyed twice.  It will be interesting to see this technique used on the superwash yarn.
You all know London Calling... this is London Calling Dark.... a touch darker then normal these are the same dye lot and would make a lovely large shawl at 1700+ yards.  All sold out.
Fun with purple!  GUESS WHAT!!!  Baby Paca LOVES COLOR!  Who knew!  Here we have 3 skeins of paca which dyed lighter then the superwash as you can see below,,, they were all in the same pot though. Only ONE skein left.
Here we have from left to right Plum, Violet and Dark Violets.  These were all dyed separately, all on superwash base just for fun and for the love of PURPLE!  The center skein was dyed with the Baby Paca above so you can really see the difference in the colors due to the fiber change.  The one on the right was dyed twice. Sold out.
More purple love!  On the left are the 3 skeins of Paca which are available BTW.  In the center is the yarn in the photo above.  On the right is a sweaters worth of Potted Violets.  NUM I so want a sweaters worth so I will be placing an order this weekend for the following:
          1)  Baby Paca YUP loving the way it's drinking up the dye like there's no tomorrow.  I can't wait to work with purple and brown, red with brown and orange with gold.... Meldy method to see if they want to play as well.
          2) We will also be ordering 4 pounds of fingering cashmere/merino since that's just flying out of here these days.  Lots of folks want sweaters and shawls out of the fingering weight.
          3) For sweaters we are getting a superwash CASHMERE/merino again!!! in Aran weight as worsted gets a bit too hot unless you are in the snowy states.
Taking orders now for the mid January dye day of cashmere and anything else you might need.  I figure the cashmere might go fast what with a back log of orders for it.  If you would like to see the Baby Paca in another color feel free to ask for it as I can do just about anything,,, just remember it's not superwash and wont get as dark as a superwash but as you can see above it does love some color.  That Emerald skeins sold but I want another for myself, isn't it lovely!  Feel free to ask for anything you need.  PM me at wmdress at and we can chat.

Here's my friend and her youngest.  I made that hat and dyed it twice... the last time it went in with London Calling Dark.  It's cables, you can't really see here.  DD made her baby's hat.  Adorable aren't they!

This is my DD's presents well 2 of them.  It was fun constantly trying to keep it away from her... then I take the photo stick it on the desktop, name it and she opened my puter yesterday.  Can you say DUH!  UGH
I'm an idiot.  I have a pair of matching gloves for her really long, cold fingers as well that I'm working on.  I hope to finish up here as well.

KAL Elizabeth by Stevieland AKA Dee O'Keefe on ILS

KAL along with us... the shawl is the Elizabeth by Stevieland shawl photo and you can KAL with us at ILS come join us!
There are four colors for this KAL:
Grape Ape - purple/red and black

Ship Wreck - royal/sapphire and black
Sea Weed - subdued emerald and black

Those of you who know the Yarn Fairy and the Pixies will note that this is very similar to Meldy Deep, the only difference, color - they all read solid as I'm sure you can imagine.

The KAL base is 877 yards/per 100 gm of a superwash, super soft merino 2 ply lace weight.  We will only be dyeing once for this KAL so you need to get your orders in by no later then 12-16, we will dye the following week and ship between the Holidays at the latest but we should be able to ship the same week as we dye barring complications.

To order the price is $43 each due to all the extra handling, yes you can order more then one.  If you are State side shipping is included in that price (per skein).

Black Cherry -subdued red/black

BTW, some peeps have wanted to go with fingering weight for a larger shawl no problem! I have regular, cashmere, & silver PM me for a price sheet.  You will need 2 skeins.  I am on chart 5 using size 4 needles and only WISH I'd have thought of that! :-)

Sorry about the photo of Black Cherry as it's not on my pretty hard woods.  This photo is very close to the original though, see all the pretty Meldy Deep in there? LOVE IT!

I take click GOODS so I can make you a shipping label and delivery confirmation.  Put into the comments which color you'd like and any stitch markers, if so which type.  Send funds to and I will be dyeing next week.  Yarn Fairie and The Pixies thank you.

Just a quick hello from the Nut Ward!!  Here are a few more squares for my 8 x 8 square afghan.  That brown one is sooo soft, it was supposed to be books, can you see them?  Really old ones with gilt edging.
Even feeling ill from my ailments, having a cold and crunch down to deadline on my book... I keep jumping up to dye more yarn every few days here and there.  Terrible right?! I know!
This is London Calling, I dyed it on the wrong base, my error, your gain.  It's 435 yards per 100 gram skein and it's a superwash merino 80/20 with nylon, fingering weight, total of 1300 yards enough for a sweater? or shawl?  I love it but then I can't hang onto everything no matter how much I'd like to.  I can let the set go for $60 and shipping of $5 State side, yes I will ship International check with me on the price.  First person to e-mail me gets it.  YARN SPOKEN FOR
We can dye more if you like. ;-)   E-mail me for a price list of my base yarns, I just took 4 cashmere fingering out of the pot.
 NUMMY on cashmere fingering.

Knitting Fiend

This past weekend I was a knitting fiend.  The children said that they'd like to come up early this year and it threw me into whirling dervish mode.  This is the results of side whirlwind.
Three hats, yes they are upside down... sort of the way I roll these days.  The photo was taken on my laptop so you can see their size.  They small, medium and large.
And a pair of the smallest socks I have ever made!  Too cute!  I just made standard toe uppers on 34 sts with a K2P2 rib to hopefully keep them on those increasingly kicking legs.
Finished up the writing for the two pattern going into the new book What Else Would Madame DeFarge Knit.  I have a lovely lace beaded hankie and a pair of long lace gloves with LOTS of extras.
This is a sweater I'm doing for a challenge.  I dyed up this yarn and just love it.  It's further along now but I only work on it here a bit and there a bit so it's going slowly.
Also started a knitghan... it's just 8 x 8 squares... so far they are all solid but I am going to make a brown one with books on it next up.
Looks as though there will be some Meldy Deep coming soon... look forward to seeing that in green, red-purple and blue all into black.  LOVELY I can't wait to share them with you all.

And because I seem to end on a pet... here's my Boo... pretending to be ET again.  Isn't he adorastinkingble!!!

What Else Would Madame DeFarge Knit?  How about some Opera gloves or Miss Bennetts Fluttering Hankie?  Yup I was just sent my congratulatory e-mail stating that I made the final cut to be included in that book and was asked for submissions to the next TWO books!  How cool is that?!!

Right on the heels of that message I received another asking for my URL's from as they are loading free patterns up there.  They have my mini-ebook on beading socks and the shawl pattern from sock yarn.  Great day and very timely as I was alone all day from morning to night and really needed a pep up.

Continuing to compile my book as much as I can handle working on it and now will be working over patterns for the next book.

My Bleeding Heart KAL begins

It has BEGUN!  Race to KAL clues print and CAST ON!  I'm so excited, if you are even HALF as excited you are on top of the world.  I have been working on the Socks for this KAL (shh no you can't have them till the end) but am tempted to get back to my shawl now that you have been let in on the secret which has been so hard for me to keep!  ;-)   Here's the URL to cast on over in Rav: MBH at Rav
Post your yarn and beads and progress.  I can't wait to see all of these beauties come together.  Just WAIT till you see the entire thing.  WAIT till you see all the stuff I flood you with at the end!  This is so NOT your average KAL.  LOL but then I'm not your average designer either.
Did I tell you?  The pattern writing for my color work book is FINISHED! I'm so on cloud 9!  It's great to have jumped that hurdle, now I will have to deal with editors and layout which will be a nightmare (Pubs general   words not mine) AND I get to design what ever my little heart desires now, work on presents, dye my heart out and in general take a much MUCH MUCH needed break.  OOOOOO found some lovely violet-black with hot pink and a touch of blue that reads very dark violet-black the other day.
I dyed the 2 skeins of sock a couple of years ago...POISEN...  I believe that I might have done it to make leggings out of.
Pulled out a top down coat that I dyed too, evidently I was depressed while dyeing as it's bright,
LOUD right!, hot pink, green, orange and brown WOW is it screaming!  Will have to loose all that dyeing with some hot pink afterwards as it's soooooo loud.  Or perhaps a light pink dip dyes in order here?  Hum,,, I have nothing in brown that would look nice too with all the under colors.  Will have to see, time will tell.
Did you also know that the first book I was in is coming out to the e-reader?  I just found out due to the sales that came in.  This is the What Would Madame DeFarge Knit book that I wrote a dye section for.  You can get it here on the right.... if you click through that URL and get ANY book that Co-operative Press has printed then I will get a bit o'change.
This cable hats a present, there will be matching gloves.  I'm either going to overdye the entire thing or paint the ribbing black.  That decision will be made after then are completed.  Yes, my own design, simple 8 4  cables on purl background with a k1tbl.  You can SOOO do this too.
These bookmarks are so much fun and just took a few hours to make.
From left to right:
Brussel sprouts in green varigated
Spider with web
Ginko Baloba from Drew Emborsky
Apple (my own design)
Snake ("   "   " you can't see his forked tongue!)
Carrot also my own design
Trellis of Lace

Progress on my cable sweater, the sleeves are on. No there's no pattern, my own design.

MMario KAL through 1/4th or so of clue 2.

My hand spun baby alpaca with a bit of cream silk merino... thinking about making some more fingerless gloves from these or spinning more and knitting up a shrug to keep my arthritic arms warm in the cold dark nights.  I hope you are as happy as I am.  Swimming right along over here.

Octagon Quilt

Of late I have needed a new lapgan so I decided to go with an Octagon and square mosaic type of quilt.  It's stuffed and I will only need a small amount of them.

Octagon Lapghan
After having another major dye day I am feeling pretty steamrollered so I need to have at least a day in bed to recover.  I would have been fine except I made the mistake of leaving the house on Saturday and having a bang up collision with the back of my wheel chair which collapses.  I was on a ramp booking along downhill without power (it's electric) when someone who shall remain nameless flipped the switch and pushed all their weight into the back.  Yes the same back with degenerative disk, arthritis coupled with FMS which makes for one big mess.

The good news is that all the dyeing for MBH is complete as is a good bit of payment dyeing for the peeps working on my book is done as well.  No more dyeing till at least next month.  More good news is the third times indeed the charm as The Raven is looking SMASHING!  I can't believe this last one it's GORGEOUS, no you can't see!  ;-)  I do have the samples I can sell but all on the QT,,, you need to agree NOT to share photos of it till after The Raven goes live.  Almost 1800 yards of lace weight, PM me if you are interested.

Other then that business as usual and all's going well.

Another use for my best b-present

Book Deadline!

It's upon me!  My TKers and I are trucking right long.... so if you don't hear from me that's precisely why!  I'm busy writing, charting, swatching and pulling MY HAIR OUT!  HAHA  I have about 45 days to get everything in and shipped back out again!  SHESH really!  45 days! NO WAY!  crazy but she wants it all by the 1st of the year.

The good news is that I began compilation and so far so good.  It's also pushed me to get the few last items done. There's a sweater, shawl and a cowl out.  Now I have to write the vest which is the last large project.  After that there are a few small items, hats and bags I believe... or perhaps not as I haven't taken a complete count yet and I'm not sure how many items I have.  Most books have about 15 items and I was shooting for a good many more then that.  We'll see.

My Pub did tell me that my Editor is going to have a fit when they see it.  :-(  I write the things and don't speak puter so it's difficult but I will come out the better for the beatings I'm sure.

DS has been baking up a storm of late.  He made a lovely gluten free bread the other day and is normally found flipping pancakes or waffles at least once a week.  We had a family meeting last night as I'm a bit stressed and there's no food churning through.  So we now have a list of what they can make and they are going to start a chart of who's cooking what when.  This way I wont have to worry that they aren't eating right which will be a good respite as I never ever spare moment.

Speaking of which,,, must needs be back to work.  Hope you are all cruising through and taking every chance to enjoy yourselves!  Have a super dee dooper day!

Grape PJ's, & presents galore

Well I really shouldn't talk about presents now should I?  Suffice to say that I have finished a MAJOR project and a smaller one to go with as the recipient surely would see a photo and then my surprise would be bango!

Why haven't you seen hide nor hair of me?  Well I have been radically busy dyeing Meldy Deep for the My Bleeding Heart KAL,,, each time I dye I'm set back for a week.  Then I dye again LOL fortunatley my LAST dye day has been set and there will be no future set backs at least till next year.  YEAH!

The only knitting I have been doing is on presents as we have a run of birthday's coming up and Christmas all rolled into one so must needs to be knitting.  DD and I did make a special dye job of our own on our last dye day.  We used up all the fingering with gold and silver... she's got the gold and I got the silver.  They are all black and red and we are doing sweaters... color work.  She's cranking on me!  OH you need to see my birthday present she made for me!  This is awesome, it's a cape style hoodie with a scarf!  She's just grab stitchionary's and cranked it out.  These are my favorite colors and she knows it.  It goes perfect with my winter coat too as she just the multi color I put into that.  Then there's the lace in the multi, different color and pattern for the frame of the face and another color and pattern for the scarf. I tell you she's a genius!  I want her to write the well... I can't say now can I? WAAAa so much I can't share.  The other thing that makes this perfect, in the winter my neck arthritis hurts something awful and so I'm forever wrapping up in a shawl... now I have my Scoodie to wrap up in instead.  Probably time to stop typing when you start to make up words!

Spoke with my publisher today and my book can get slotted for after Christmas IF we can pull it together by then.  We are all hard at work,,, well I am, I only have TWO test knitters working currently and I must needs write and be quiet and well slept to do so.

A few photos for you.  This is my Boo in his new sweater for this year... still can't find the sweater I used his hair I'd spun to make.  Really bummed at the loss!

This ferocious guy comes to see me on a daily basis now that he knows he can get food from me.  Silly old bear clucks like a girl and wheezes after every TO OFTEN crow.
The boys.  Just had to get this in there.  Aren't they cute!  They get along well enough to sleep on the same bed!  FINALLY!
Other then that all's well here.  Hope you are all well too.

Magic Mosaic

The beginning of this winters afghan.  For many years I have wanted to make a tile mosaic just like this, guess it was time, so I designed this one up and am now knitting it.  Made from fingering weight sock yarn scarps left over from various projects.  They are 3" x 3" made on size 3 needles, 3-D and stuffed with poly fill.

Amythest Stitch Markers

After dyeing 40 skeins of yarn on Wednesday I knew I was going to be down for a few days and so planned to make the necessary stitch markets in time to ship all the Meldy on Monday.  ;-)  I had fun!  I didn't want to stop once I got going and so played with some real gems!  What I now have is Amythest Stitch Markers! B & C grade with glass beads.  They are 6 sets on the left, the blue and green on the right are glass.  Each set has a silver push in lobster claw clasp.  The 4mm jump rings are gold and have been soldered shut.  There is nothing on these markers to catch in your knitting as I have to use them and only use the finest findings and beads available.  Use button on right, if you want some included in your yarn order to save on shipping, please get your order in asap as I will be shipping starting this weekend.

Here's my little Pidgewidgeon, cute isn't he?  I got the idea from the photo here below with the knitted hat.  DD made his beak for him, the colors were an accident as it was my only brown, found the Kidd Silk type of grey/black and thought it would look nice.  There's also a tan to brown with a metallic gold in the body.  His hat is Crystal Palace long strand and the teal is a fun fur cause it's COLD here.  ;-)

Had to have the photos of the real deal for you to see as well.  Funny though I had his body done before even looking for photos of him.  Cute isn't he!

Whats Fall without a few Punkies?  Mine are made from Kauni and are done on a size 9 crochet hook the smaller one is 1" by 1.5"  Since we are talking about really sweet cuties... I will leave you with my Boo, poor dear has Cutebara worms again :-( AND trachea collapse.  He and I are joined at the hip and we spend all our time together, I will be so devastated as I don't see him lasting much longer. I thought he was young but these come at any age and it's a Yorkie (and other small dog) thing so I should be glad of the time I've had.  So long as his quality of life is good enough to get more Cutebara from sticking his nose into the rabbit warrens then I will be happy.  When he gets to the point of no longer being able to chase the bunnies, well, dying from suffocation isn't an option.  I had a lung collapse, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.  All this to say, please pray for my Boo if you think of us.
Can you see Squiddy in there? I could and did... Now can you see Squiddy?  Figured a girl should have a bit of pink in there too.  My gift is my presence as a play mate for a few hours.  As long as the Gillyweed lasts.
